Fifth-grader Moses Levich returned to action in top form on October 27, sweeping the competition 4-0 in the school year's opening chess tournament. With the victory, Moses took home another trophy and also became the year's first qualifier for TRCS annual closing chess tournament, which culminates in the presentation of the famous Monte Joffee trophy.

Competition was tough, Moses said, adding that his fourth-round game with fourth-grader Ethan Hughes was "an epic struggle." Ethan and classmate Asher Kolman both finished with three points, though Ethan, winner of the first-place plaque, finished an eyelash ahead of Asher on tiebreaker points. As always, the kids played hard but courteously.
Our next chess tournament will be the first Saturday of December 2007.
