Moses Levich, a second grade student, an avid chess player, and a uniquely stoic competitor, defeated all opponents at the most recent tournament of The Renaissance Charter School, to accomplish his dream of taking home the famous "Monte Joffee" trophy. He finished with four points out of a possible four.
Other winners are:
Jovan Mirkovic, Intermediate; Alexis Orrego, Open; Alexandra Krutel, Girls; and Nikola Mirkovic, first grade.
The December 5 event included a contingent from St. Joan of Arc School, whose principal, L.C. Kelly, responded to a personal invitation by sending several kids.
"We come here to have fun, regardless of the results," said Moses before the third round.
He had fun. Everybody did.
But the immense satisfaction of achieving a perfect score was unmistakable in Moses' face.
The trophy was an appropriate reward for the hard work of a kid who dedicated his time to improve, without dismay.
Not too many winners of our chess tournaments have scored 4/0.
A good prize for a good job!
