With the impressive score of five victories out of five games, fourth grader Angelica Benares obtained in the chess grand finale the Monte Joffee Trophy of the year and the right to hold the title as Champion 2008.
"I'm speech less" she said with visible emotion after receiving her gorgeous trophy from Jim Stonebraker.
Besides the public that attend it the Auditorium of The Renaissance Charter
School, six students took part in the last competition of the year, including the past champion Jovan Mirkovic, who ended second, and which king was forced to surrender to Angelica's troops.
The grand Finale was interrupted to have our traditional award ceremony where each member of the chess club received a certificate and medal of honor from Renee Stonebraker, parent chess coordinator.
As the competition resumes, Angelica took good care of each one of her opponents in great form."I saw her working extra time with her chess at home, very determined to succeed in this event" mentioned Jerry Benares, who arrived to the battle field very early, "she certainly did". Moses Levich, multiple winner of the monthly sessions, wasn't in his best level and ended in fourth place behind Ramon Mizhquiri who took third. The debutants in the mayor event of the year, Corinne Stonebraker and Nina Kolman, were so confidents in the competition but the experience of theirs opponents succeed.
"I have all summer to improve in my chess" mentioned the youngest chess player of this competition, first grader Nina Kolman.
