She did it again!

Never before seen, such a magnificent comeback with high concentration and confidence, Alexandra Krutel obtained her second “Monte Joffee” trophy at The Renaissance Charter School chess tournament this month. Alexandra first victory was Octobert/2004.

Twenty-six kids from four schools fought to conquer the prizes in all different sections.

The debut of PS 222, with nine “brand new” chess players was observed by Jake Levich, a TRCS parent who helped during the event. He said this was “A good sign of how scholastic chess has become important in our community”

Ms. Helene Espinoza, representing Principal Ms. Maria Ciccone of PS 222, was so impress with the chess event and the results of her children. She said, “It's amazing how this place has been a perfect scenario to test the chess capabilities of our kids whom learned the game only a couple months ago”.

St. Joan of Arc school, with Hanna May, and PS 7, with Ivana Castiblanco, was also present.

Alexandra adds her new title with perfect score

of 4/0, after defeating Nicholas Maniace, Cassius Brown-Wells, George Spencer-Gregoriou and in the last round to Jovan Mirkovic, who won the open section.

“My most difficult game was against Jovan who I lost to in December. I prepared myself and this time I played little better”, the champion said.

Stephanie Maung obtained the first place for girls, and her sister Erica, playing in Intermediate, received first place as well.

Between the little ones in K-1, the kindergartner Brennan Rogan, surprise everyone with his clear victory.

A new prize was implemented to encourage the kids to record games of chess, and winner of “best recording score sheet” went to Yashsvi Sharma of PS 222.

In general, parent and kids enjoyed the journey and signed-up for the next tournament in March 12.
